Mercer junior Trey Rule captured the first Atlantic Sun weekly award of his career on Wednesday, earning the league's Men's Golfer of the Week honor following an impressive showing at the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
Rule took home a share of individual medalist honors at the event, outpacing 73 other competitors with a three-round total of 206. Rule fired rounds of even-par 70, 3-under 67 and 1-under 69 to tie Florida State's Hank Lebioda for the individual title.
The showing marked Rule's career best finish and second top-five placement of the 2013-14 academic year. The effort elevated him in GolfStat.com's Men's Statistic Rankings, where he's currently for tied for 83rd with a stroke average of 71.33.
On the year, Rule has piled up 61 birdies and two eagles while carding sub-par totals in nine of 18 rounds. Rule and his Mercer teammates return to competitive play on Sunday, March 2 at the USF Invitational at Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
