After exams.. The holidays and a little down time the Mercer women's basketball team is set to begin conference play Thursday night at home against North Florida.

Head Coach Susie Gardener had her kids working on off the ball screens... And they've thrown in a heavy dose of constant shooting.

Offensively the Bears have struggled inside Hawkins arena.

But the team is on a three game winning streak and put together the best record since 1995 in their games leading up to January.

Right now they are 7-4... North Florida comes in at 4-7 but Gardner says that is deceiving.

"Well as a coach I've had to be creative, Gardner explained. We have some really good shooters on this team but on paper we're only shooting about 30 percent so we've spent a lot of time in the gym just working on our shooting. We know that North Florida is going to be quite a challenge for us, you can't look at their record and think this is the team that they are because they've played a really difficult non-conference schedule."

The injury report looks pretty good for the Bears right now with Rutland alum Kendra Grant feeling good on her knees that have given her trouble in the past.

The Bears have a game Thursday night at seven. They will also host Jacksonville Saturday afternoon inside Hawkins arena.
