Continuing his recent streak of success at the plate again this past weekend, junior Chesny Young was rewarded by being named both the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The weekly conference award is the third of Young's career and league-high fifth received by a Mercer player this season.
The Atlanta, Ga. native hit .800 (8-for-10) for the weekend to help Mercer sweep its three-game series from Northern Kentucky. Young compiled five walks, three runs scored and eight RBI on the weekend in which he recorded multi-hit games in all three games played.
Young has been hitting at a torrid pace at the dish of late, batting at a .465 clip spanning over 22 games played since March 14. Young's hot hitting has lifted him into fourth place in the A-Sun with 58 hits and sixth place in the league with a .372 batting average.
Young and the rest of the Bears are back in action when it hosts Georgia Tech on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game time at Claude Smith Field.
