Mercer senior Lacey Fears was named an at-large individual selection for the NCAA East Regional as announced by the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee on Monday evening.
Fears is one of 18 individuals selected to compete for the NCAA Championship and will join five others competing at the East Regional in Tallassee, Florida. The regional will be contested May 8-10 at Southwood Golf Course.
The top two individuals from each regional will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship, to be held at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 20-23.
"Lacey has worked hard over the past four years and this is a great reward for her," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "She has had some amazing wins in her career. Hopefully, advancing to the NCAA's will send her professional career down the right path."
Fears was named a unanimous All-Atlantic Sun first team selection on April 23 while also landing a spot on the league's All-Academic team. The third A-Sun All-Conference first team selection of her career came on the heels of a season that saw her record a 74.0 stroke average while posting six top-10 finishes and four top-five placements.
Over the year, Fears collected six sub-par rounds, including season-best 70's on three different occasions. She was also named A-Sun Women's Golfer of the Week on March 19 after taking individual medalist honors at the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate.
Fears will benefit from a measure of familiarity with Southwood Golf Course, where she helped Mercer capture a tie for seventh place at the Florida State Matchup on Feb. 16. Fears tied for 16th place individually at the event with rounds of 76, 73 and 75.
