British Open champ Rory McIlroy has soared to the top of the leaderboard at the end of his second round of the PGA Championship. McIlroy is in the clubhouse at 9 under par following his 4-under 67, one shot ahead of Australian Jason Day and Jim Furyk.
Ryan Palmer, Rickie Fowler and Mikko Ilonen are two shots behind McIlroy who won the British Open last month.
Phil Mickelson trails by only three after firing a four under par 67 on Friday.
Tiger Woods missed the cut at a major championship for only the fourth time in his professional career. Woods finished at six over par 148. Over two days at Valhalla in Louisville, Woods made only three birdies.
Macon's Russell Henley missed making the cut by one shot. Henley shot a 75 on Friday after opening the tournament with a 69.
