Destini Bush has been a trailblazer at Central Fellowship ever since she enrolled, either with a basketball in her hands or the books, and with this being her last year at the Christian Academy, it's bittersweet for her coach on what Destini means to the program.
"We've improved tremendously over the season," says Head Coach Chris Oxford. "Right now, we're sitting at 13-11, and it's the best season we've had in the past 5 years, and we've ended up as the fourth seed in our region."
A large part of that success falls on Destini's shoulders. On the floor, Destini has been a part of the varsity squad since the 8th grade.
"She's always the first one to come to practice and the last one to leave", says Oxford. "She averages more than 24 points and 14 rebounds. This year, she broke 1,000 points for her career and also 1,000 rebounds for her career. She has several records here, rebounds, points, and just doing a great job."
Destini is also a true competitor in the classroom, showcasing a 3.8 GPA.
"I feel like when I am taking a test or quiz or something and if I make a 92 and someone else makes a 95, I feel like I should have beaten them or something," says Bush. "So I try my best to work harder because I know education is the best thing, and I know that's how you strive to be better educated."
Coach says one of the best words that describes Destini is "leader," and the 6'2 senior says she just does what feels natural.
"When I'm on the court and I put on that uniform, I'm a whole different person," Bush admits. "Honestly, if I was sitting in the stands and watching myself on the court, I wouldn't believe that I'm the same person. It's just something about the uniform that brings out the person that I really do like to be, and I'm really glad about that."
