Denzel Felder likes to kick it on the soccer field, a sport he's been playing since he was 9 years old.
"I just love the game itself," says Felder. "Being on the field, it just takes my mind off everything, especially when I'm really stressed out."
The senior defensive up back doesn't get caught up in all the hype of bending it like Beckham, but more loves protecting his goalkeeper.
Felder explains, "I slow down the attack pretty much. Just the feeling of shutting people down on defense is awesome. To me, it's not always about scoring. It's about being with my team, working hard, and getting things down right."
The Eagle also is a leader on the pitch and in the classroom, helping his team to earn a 5-0 start to begin their second season under new head coach Sam Said, and coach says having a player like Denzel on the roster is a plus for any team.
"Yes, I think we are a little ahead of schedule from where I thought we would be. That only goes to show you what a good crew we have here at Northside," says Said. "Denzel is one of the first players I met first when I got here, and you could look at him and tell he was an athlete, but I didn't know how his attitude was. I quickly found out his attitude was every bit of good as he is."
A former football player, Denzel hopes to sway the fans of the fall to rally and support the spring boys and Coach feels like he is the perfect spokesman for the job.
" I'm really proud. I've been trying to tell people that ever since I've been here that Northside soccer is really good, but they didn't seem to believe that", Felder elaborates. "I feel like we are really proving that now."
Said agrees, "He's always smiling and all his teachers love him. I never ask him to do anything that he just doesn't say, 'Yes, sir!' He works really hard in the classroom and on the field and you couldn't ask for a better player."
And with college aspirations on the horizon, it's no surprise that Denzel will reach his goal and that is why he is our Athlete of the Week.
