While we honor the teams and athletes of today, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is honoring the athletes and coaches of years past.
The Hall is inducting eight new members today, and one of them, James Brooks, played his high school ball at Warner Robins. Brooks spoke about his former Demon teammates and coaches this afternoon.
"They got me ready to play at the college level," Brooks said. "They built a foundation and got me ready to play. I'm very happy for them, because it gave me a chance to go out there and do the things i'm capable of doing, and did very well."
Brooks was a member of the 1976 Warner Robins state and national championship team. He went on to play college ball at Auburn, and professionally in the NFL.He still holds the all-purpose yardage record for the Cincinnati Bengals.
His high school coach, Robert Davis, was inducted into the hall in 2011, and says it's about time his former running back got recognized.
"It's long overdue," said Davis."Fifteen thousand yards in the pros, and 179 touchdowns. That's awesome."
