Macon's Taylor McGraw closed strong but just missed out on winning the Georgia State Amateur golf tournament. The 85th annual event was played at the Lake View Course at Callaway Gardens. Brenda Pictor of Marietta won the tournament by one stroke over McGraw who played her high school golf at Mt. de Sales Academy.
McGraw lipped out a biride putt on the 17th hole of the final round and just missed another birdie try on the 18th that would have forced a tie.
Pictor won the event for the second time. She also claimed the State Amateur in 1994.
McGraw is entering her senior year at Troy University in Alabama where she is a member of the golf team.
