He promised to do so if he won the Daytona 500
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Before the Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt Jr. made a promise: If he won Sunday's race, he'd finally join Twitter.
After all, the @DaleJr account already has more than 230,000 followers anxiously awaiting his first tweet.
Now that he's won, it didn't take him long before his very first tweet -- a selfie with the Daytona 500 trophy.
"Tonight seemed like as good a night as any to join Twitter," he tweeted. "How is everyone doin?"
In victory lane, Earnhardt's girlfriend Amy Reimann told USA TODAY Sports she knew he'd follow through by joining the Twitter ranks.
"I think he will," she said. "We've talked about it a little bit anyway, and he's not as apprehensive as he was before. He's pretty good at honoring his bets."
Said spotter T.J. Majors: "It sure would be fun to poke fun at him on there. It'd be pretty sweet."
