MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's basketball head coach Susie Gardner continues to add depth to an already stellar 2013-14 recruiting class by announcing the signing of Forest Park standout Kayla Potts on Thursday afternoon.
Potts joins Alexandria Williams, Madi Mitchell, Sydni Means, Brittnee Broadway, Shonterria Kitchens and Jalyn Slaughter in a 2013-14 signing class that was ranked No. 143 in the nation according to All Star Girls Report.
Potts is a 5-10 guard from Rex, Georgia who is currently playing for head coach Steve Cole at Forest Park High School.
"Kayla is a goal oriented, dedicated, self-motivated individual who has an outstanding work ethic and always rises to the occasion when her best is needed," Cole said. "Kayla is a tremendous leader and understands the importance of leading by example. She is well respected by her teammates, is extremely unselfish and is someone who will not only add to the Mercer program but make it even better."
Potts helped develop Forest Park into a perennial contender following a 4A State Finals appearance during her freshman year and back-to-back 5A Final Four appearances during her junior and senior campaigns. Potts had a breakout junior season during which she averaged 23.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game on her way to being named the Clayton County Player of the Year, an Atlanta Journal Constitution All-Metro South Region First Team selection and an AJC All-State Second Team member. A three-time First Team All-Region and First Team All-Clayton County selection, Potts was forced to sit out during her senior season due to a knee injury.
