WHERE: SR 87 northbound over Beaverdam Creek
WHAT: Contractors for the Georgia DOT have scheduled bridge beams to be placed on the new bridge over Beaverdam Creek on SR 87. Flaggers will direct northbound motorists through the work zone.
Currently motorists are utilizing a single lane for northbound travel and 2 lanes for those traveling southbound. During this work, motorists will be directed to travel in a single lane north or southbound. The turn lane to I-75 northbound will remain accessible.
This project is the replacement of the existing bridges on S.R. 87/U.S. 23 over Beaverdam Creek and the addition of a new turning lane on S.R. 87/U.S. 23 to the I-75 northbound on ramp. The project length is 0.313 miles in length including the bridge replacement and roadway tie-ins. This project is located along S.R. 87/U.S. 23, three miles north of the Macon City limits. The new concrete bridge will be 103 feet wide and 225 feet long. The new roadway portion will be two lanes in each direction with a raised concrete median separating the lanes. The current estimated completion date is May 31, 2012.
This is a WORK ZONE and extreme caution is necessary. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this work zone. Message signs, barrels and cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.
