Madilyn Harrell received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Religion from Mercer University in May 2020. Her experience at 13WMAZ began when Madilyn was still a student at Mercer’s Center for Collaborative Journalism.

Through the center’s partnership with 13WMAZ, Madilyn completed a practicum course in the newsroom. She interned the summer leading up to her senior year before joining full-time in May 2020.

During her time as a journalism student, Madilyn had the opportunity to serve as a photographer at WinShape Camps, where she was able to gain experience in both photography and videography.

In 2019, Madilyn traveled to Denver, Colorado to shoot promotional videos for a church plant. She also created and developed social media pages for two organizations on Mercer’s campus.

As a senior, Madilyn participated in the Georgia NewsLab in Atlanta. The NewsLab works in partnership with the Atlanta Journal Constitution and Georgia Public Broadcasting. She was able to practice investigative journalism through the class, which was offered at Kennesaw State University.

Madilyn Harrell is originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia but grew up in Jesup, GA. She enjoys football, the television show 'The Office,' and music. She is happy to work in Macon, a place she has enjoyed thoroughly over the past four years at Mercer.
