Thais Ackerman joined 13WMAZ in June as a Digital Content Producer after graduating from Mercer University in Macon.

Her experience at 13WMAZ began when Thais was still a student at Mercer’s Center for Collaborative Journalism. Through the center’s partnership with 13WMAZ, Thais completed practicum courses in the newsroom. She joined the team full-time in 2019 following graduation. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a double minor in Africana Studies and Media Studies.

During her time at as a journalism student, Thais exercised her passion for storytelling by covering news at the university and around Central Georgia as a staff writer, photographer and videographer for Mercer’s student newspaper.

She spent the summer of 2016 interning at The Macon Telegraph and the summer of 2018 interning at CNN in New York City.

During the summer of 2017, Thais traveled to Cape Town, South Africa to work on a documentary for the University of Cape Town’s medical school on the social determinants of health in the city’s townships. She spent the remainder of the summer interning at Cape Community Newspapers producing written and video stories.

Thais is originally from Cooper City, Florida and enjoys cooking and photography in her spare time. She is looking forward to continuing to call Central Georgia her home!
