LIST | 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in Central Georgia

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be observed on Monday, January 21, but several cities and places around Central Georgia will be holding events to commemorate his life.

DUBLIN

Saturday, Jan. 19

- Dublin will hold its 25th Annual Martin Luther King Parade beginning at noon. It will start on MLK Boulevard and end on West Jackson Street downtown. The route will also pass by the new MLK monument on the corner of Church and Telfair.

FORSYTH

Monday, Jan. 21

- The annual march and celebration will begin at noon on the Courthouse Square followed by a remembrance program and lunch at Kynette United Methodist Church.

GORDON

Monday, Jan. 21

- Gordon will hold its inaugural MLK March at 11:30 a.m. The starting point will be City Hall.

- Following the march, there will be an MLK Worship Service at noon. The speaker will be Rev. Andre C Loyd

MACON

Monday, Jan. 21

- The 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Celebration will be held at 7:30 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church on Ward Street. A suggested donation of $6.00 is appreciated, however everyone is welcomed regardless of ability to pay. The speaker will be Cathy Cox, dean of Mercer University School of Law and former Georgia Secretary of State.

-A Prayer Walk will be held in the Pleasant Hill Neighborhood starting at 10 a.m. Everyone will meet at Jefferson Long Park at 436 Pursely Street. This year's walk is also led by St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.

- A citywide memorial march starts at 11 a.m. at four different points in the city before meeting at the Government Center on Poplar Street with a greeting at noon. Those four spots are: Booker T. Washington Community Center (north), Rosa Jackson Center (east), Frank Johnson Recreation Center (west), and Memorial Gym (south).

- An MLK Climaxing Church Celebration will be held at the Historic Steward Chapel AME Church on Forsyth Street at 12:30 p.m. 

MILLEDGEVILLE

Friday, Jan. 18

- The 3rd Annual MLK Community Breakfast will be 7:30-9:30 a.m. in Georgia College's Magnolia Ballroom. The theme for this year's breakfast will be based upon King's 1967 speech, 'What is Your Life's Blueprint?' Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce or by clicking here. - Georgia Military College will be holding a celebration of the life and accomplishments of Dr. King at 2:30 p.m. at the Goldstein Center for Performing Arts on GMC's Milledgeville campus. Albert Jackson Jr., the first African American graduate of Georgia Military College, will be the guest speaker at the event. The event is free.

Saturday, Jan. 19

- There will be a Georgia College MLK Day of Service between 9 a.m. and noon, and 1-4 p.m. where volunteers can help with Milledgeville/Baldwin County Boys & Girls Club. Lunch is served at noon and volunteers will help clean, organize, paint and clear garden areas. To volunteer, click here.
