"It's on a donut!": Tommy's Bakery in Macon creates special dish for Macon Burger Week

The bakery has been in the game since Burger Week began, and this year's creation has really brought out the flavors of Tommy's.

MACON, Ga. — Macon Burger Week is still going strong, and continues serving up Central Georgia some of the best beef creations the city has to offer.

Tommy's Bakery and Café on Thomaston Road in Macon created the "Donut Mega Burger" for the competition.

The burger is made of an 8-ounce beef patty covered in a secret cheese spread and bacon jam, all on a glazed donut and topped with a fried egg.

“I had just a part of a day to come up with the ingredients and I thought of that burger in about 10 minutes,” owner Tommy Sadler said.

A Burger Week veteran, Sadler said this burger is a combination of ideas from previous competitions.

"I've been doing this the entire five years they've been doing it, so I kind of took a little bit from each year and come up with this one," he said.

Sadler said the burger is so good, he has already eaten two this week and everyone who's had one seems to really enjoy it.

“I’ve eaten two of them personally. Everybody so far has just raved about how good it is,” he said.

But for him, Burger Week isn't just about the competition.

“It's not so designed for me to try and win the contest as it is for me to be able to make a new product and bring new people in the door. That's what this week is all about for me,” he said.

While the concept for the burger might be a little strange to some people, Tommy thinks its uniqueness is what makes it such a a big hit during the contest.

"It's on a donut. Hello? I mean what better could it be than on a donut? Anybody can get a burger on a bun, but you can't get one on a donut," he said while laughing.

Tommy's is also open for breakfast and lunch, and has many options for pastries, catering, and coffee.

Burger week lasts through this weekend into Sunday, so you still have time to stop by and try the donut burger.

13WMAZ's Mallory Morgan and Alexandria Dorsey both tried the burger, and think it holds up to Tommy's words.

If you do try it, there is one piece of advice: get all of the elements in one bite, and dip your fries into the bacon jam.
