Georgia College students volunteer at Boys & Girls Club in memory of Martin Luther King Jr.

“I feel like this is essential we give back and to think that children here now get to experience,” said Fidelis.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, more than 100 Georgia College students spent their time on Saturday helping the Baldwin County Boys and Girls Club.

The volunteers came from different campus groups and the school says it's all a part of trying to teach students how to leave a mark on their community.

“Georgia College is awesome… it’s great having that opportunity for an extra coat of paint some reorganizing,” said Baldwin County Boys and Girls Club CEO Pamela Peek.

Fidelis Folifack says it was a really important project for him. He says he grew up going to the center and it felt good to give back with his fraternity brothers.

“When you're in a small community that doesn't have very much, I thought it was important for me to come out here today because it's the boys and girls club I grew up in,” said Fidelis.

He says The Boys and Girls Club always took care of him during the summer time.

“They always made sure there was something to do. They took us on college tours and everything so I feel like this is essential we give back and to think that children here now get to experience,” said Fidelis.

They gave the center a new paint job, disinfected books, and even painted a mural on the wall. Emily Suber was helping her sorority sisters paint a mural.

“At Georgia college, we just go to school every single day so to come out here and like serve the community and be a part of something bigger than campus life it's a great opportunity,” said Suber.

“They couldn't recognize me at first and I came up to them and introduced myself.  It was great to see them and for them to see me come back and give back,” said Fidelis.
