Top 5 things to have at your tailgate party

Before the game kicks off the party starts under the tent at your tailgate party. Here are a few things that are key to have a good time outside the stadium.

On Fridays, we have high school football, college begins Saturday, and the NFL regular season is right around the corner.

So it makes sense that Friday is National Tailgating Day.

In the spirit of things, we put together a very unscientific Top 5 list.

We love -- I mean, LOVE -- our teams. That's why the party can start well before kickoff.

Here are five things your tailgate will need to score with your friends.

#5: We start off with the chair. It should be really comfortable. It made the list because you don't want to stand around your tailgate. Nope, save that for rooting on your team.

#4: The tunes rank number 4. Academy store manager James Wade says they're essential.

"Music is probably one of the most important things you can have -- it's 90 percent of your vibe and I'd say it's 100 percent of what keeps the party going,"

#3: Clothing slides in at number 3.

"I think one of the most essential pieces of your gameday. You know, apparel is going to be your t-shirt, how are you going to represent your team and how are you going to represent what you stand for," James said.

#2: Number 2, the machine that makes the food happen -- the grill.

"In my opinion, I prefer gas -- it's a cleaner, more efficient burn, and I think you get a more even cooking experience, but I am also a huge fan of griddles. It makes it super easy to throw some bacon down on them burgers," James exclaimed.

#1: Burgers are a great transition to number 1 - FOOD!

Carl Fambro owns Francar's, and he needed a calculator to figure out how many wings they sell to tailgaters during a Mercer home game.

"That's 2,500 wings, that's a good day," he said with a smile.

Carl says more and more folks are opting for boneless wings these days.

"The wings are really easy to cook, they're convenient, everybody loves wings -- they're the favorite finger food. You can get different sauces -- you can get mild, you can get spicy, you can get hot," Carl said.
