MINNEAPOLIS — Have an old child car seat you're looking to get rid of? Target is bringing back its popular trade-in program in April.

Families looking to take advantage of Target's 20% off car seat trade-in coupon can do so starting Monday, April 5, through Saturday, April 17.

The Minnesota-based company said customers who trade in old car seats can also put the coupon toward select baby gear, including high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers and playards.

Individuals looking to trade in two old car seats can redeem the offer twice, Target said.

The coupons can be used on both in-store and online purchases through May 1.

You can only trade in an old car seat at a Target store, and customers need to be enrolled in the company's rewards program, Target Circle, to participate.

Target said they will accept all types of car seats, from infant seats to boosters. Their partner Waste Management is conducting the recycling.

Since launching the program five years ago, Target has recycled more than 1.1 million car seats, or more than 17 million pounds of plastic.

The event coincides with Earth Month, and it's part of the company's commitment to incorporate eco-friendly practices into the business.

"We are making it easy to have a positive impact on the environment through trade-in programs," Target said.

The announcement comes weeks after Target announced it's shutting down its City Center operation in downtown Minneapolis, relocating 3,500 employees to other locations.

Company officials said the decision is in part due to a move toward a hybrid model that will incorporate both virtual and on-site work, which will require less office space.
