10-year-old boy shot and killed at Milledgeville home on Monday morning, suspect arrested

The child was in bed at the time of the shooting.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A child was shot and killed in Milledgeville on Monday morning, according to Major Brad King with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

A 10-year-old boy was shot and killed inside his home in the 200 block of Harrisburg Road just around 1:30 a.m.

During a press conference Sheriff Bill Massee identified the 10-year-old as Damarion Byrd. He is a Midway Hills Academy student.

Someone walked up and opened fire on the home. Massee says at least 17 shots from an estimated 125 feet were fired into the home.

Those are the shots that killed Byrd while he was asleep in his bed.

Felony murder warrants were obtained for 39-year-old Rodracius Demaris Stephens of Milledgeville.

Stephens was arrested by deputies at a local motel.

He was then transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office where he is currently being held.

The GBI has been called in to assist.
