BYRON, Ga. — A Byron couple is off to prison after being sentenced last week for a multi-county crime spree.

According to a news release from District Attorney David Cooke’s office, it all began in 2016 when Shannon Orban, 38, stole a $294 bank deposit while volunteering at the Byron Elementary school store.

Then in March 2018, Christopher Wright, 47, was found to have meth on him.

In July 2018, the pair stole $300 and caused $4,000 in damage at the Peachy Clean Car Wash by prying open coin machines.

From November 2018 to January 2019, the pair then broke into cars in Bibb, Crawford and Peach counties taking purses, check books, GPS devices and other items.

On Jan. 13, Orban tried to use a stolen debit card to get cash at a bank in Byron. Then, on Feb. 1, Byron Police saw a broken-down vehicle on Highway 49 that matched the description of an entering auto suspect.

They found Orban behind the wheel and arrested her on outstanding warrants. Wright was arrested after a foot chase.

Christopher Wright pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor theft by taking, second degree criminal damage to property, misdemeanor obstruction and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Shannon Orban pleaded guilty to fiduciary theft, financial transaction card fraud, misdemeanor theft by taking and second degree criminal damage to property.

Both were sentenced to 10 years, with four to be served in prison. Both must pay $4,000 restitution to the car wash and Orban must pay $294 to the Byron Elementary PTO.
