DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Two DeKalb County parents are in jail facing murder charges in the death of their infant child.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said they arrested 24-year-old Rachelle Rattrey and 26-year-old Tabares Tony Wadley, both of Decatur, on Tuesday after an investigation that began following a 911 on March 28.
The call came when the 1-year-old was discovered making a gurgling noise and foaming at the mouth. First responders arrived at the home on Bermuda Run Court to find the child unresponsive. The baby ultimately died and a toxicology report revealed that the child had ingested 34 times the amount of oxycodone typically prescribed for an adult.
A search warrant in March later revealed numerous prescription drug containers on the floor of the home and a small amount of marijuana.
Investigators eventually secured arrest warrants for both Wadley and Rattrey on June 25. The two were finally arrested on Tuesday by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office fugitive unit.
Officers also found several prescription containers for Xanax, oxycodone, and ibuprofen scattered throughout the home.
They are now in jail facing charges of felony second-degree murder, felony second-degree child cruelty and misdemeanor violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.
