My Teacher is Tops: Ms. Dana Yawn at South Dodge Elementary School

At South Dodge, the theme is 'finding the treasure in learning'. One top teacher struck gold with her gifted students.

EASTMAN, Ga. — Ms. Dana Yawn has been teaching for more than 15 years. She says she was inspired by her high school teachers to become an educator.

"They influence me to make a difference because they made a difference in my life," Yawn said. "I'm just excited to be able to teach these kids and make a difference in their lives."

Now, she teaches third and fourth grade gifted classes at South Dodge Elementary School.

Yawn was very surprised to be nominated as a top teacher, but it's not the first time.

Junior Journalist Kinley Pridgen surprised her back in 2014.

On Monday, Kinsley Bradham wrote the letter nominating Ms. Yawn. She described what it's like having Ms. Yawn as a teacher.

"She is very kind, smart, and grateful." Kinsley said. "Two ways she is kind: is when one of us forgot our homework or math for the day she says don't worry."

Congratulations Ms. Yawn!
