17th annual Skydog Celebration held in Macon on Duane Allman's 77th birthday

The event featured Allman inspired music and many of their songs played.

MACON, Ga. — On Sunday, Macon celebrated the life of one of the original members of the Allman Brothers Band: Duane Allman.

This comes after the passing of Mama Louise, the adopted matriarch of the band.

Duane Allman died in a motorcycle crash in 1971.

Sunday would have been his 77th birthday.

People enjoyed live music at the 17th annual Skydog Celebration over at Carolyn Crayton Park.

The event featured Allman inspired music and many of their songs played.

Admission was free.

Organizers asked people to bring personal hygiene items like spray deodorant, razors and body wash for those at the Daybreak Center for the Homeless.

Sister Theresa Sullivan, director of Daybreak, says she's proud to see the community following Mama Louise's footsteps and giving back.

"Ee try to be that welcoming community like Mama Louise that says come in and get some food. And any good momma knows that it's not just the food. It's the love and the care,” she said.

That event was from noon until 5 p.m.
