23-year-old Macon man found guilty of murdering his childhood friend

Attorneys say Johnson was in a "murderous rage."

Bibb County jurors found Hymetheus Malik Johnson, 23, guilty of murdering his childhood friend in 2016, according to a press release from the office of the District Attorney.

Johnson shot and killed Javontae Passard, 23, on July 15, 2016.

According to evidence shown at the trial, the murder happened just after 7 p.m. at Johnson's mother's home on Trade Wind Road in Macon.

There was a dispute between Johnson and his mother.

That's when witnesses say Passard stepped in and stood up for Johnson’s mother, telling Johnson “not to talk to his mother like that." An argument ensued.

Johnson then shot Passard twice. Johnson was arrested a month later.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Malcor said Johnson was like a “powder keg,” and that he was in a “murderous rage.”

Johnson was also convicted of theft and sentenced to life in prison.
