One of the inmates accused of killing two Georgia corrections officers -- Donnie Russell Rowe -- also has a history in Bibb County.

In 2001, Rowe was arrested along with another man by the Bibb Sheriff's Office after committing two armed robberies.

According to a Bibb County Superior Court incident report, after robbing a man at gun point in Monroe County, Donnie Russell Rowe and another man came to what used to be a Motel 8 off of Arkwright Road in Macon.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Halloween, Rowe came inside the motel asking for a key to room 214, but the report says the clerk would not give him a key since he was not registered in the room.

According to the report, that is when Rowe began going through the hallways of the motel looking in the peep holes. Rowe then stopped at room 220.

The report says there were two people inside of the room when Rowe knocked on the door claiming to be room service.

One of the people cracked the door open, but Rowe forced his way in.

Rowe then pulled a gun out and held it to each person’s head, taking several of their items including truck keys and cash.

According to this incident report, Rowe cut the phone line so the victims could not call for help and then left with the warning, "if you stick your head out this door, I will kill you."

The victims described the man to authorities, and that is when Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies were able to identify the connection to the robbery in Monroe.

The report says Bibb County deputy George Meadows followed a car that fit the description of the one the robbers were driving.

Meadows pulled the men over and arrested them.

Rowe was charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
