'It's a sin': Nearly 500 people attend anti-abortion rally March for Life

The Kolbe Center in Macon sponsored the event for the fifth year.

MACON, Ga. — About 470 people met in downtown Macon in Rosa Parks Square for an anti-abortion rally Friday. For the fifth year, the March for Life was sponsored by Macon's Kolbe Center, an anti-abortion organization. They help women in crisis with an unplanned pregnancy in adherence to Catholic teachings. The group also provides education and expertise on Catholic Pro-Life Activities.

"The exciting thing today is, obviously, the president is there at Washington D.C. marching with the passionate pro-lifers that are there as well," said Kolbe Center Direct Ann Beall.

The Mount de Sales Academy choir sang, and keynote speaker Pastor Chip Miller from the First Presbyterian Church prayed.

About 470 people marched from Poplar Street and ended their march on Walnut Street at the Kolbe Center.

During the silent march, they passed some people like Lanie Corley. She says she supports abortion rights.

"I feel like it's your decision not to be trapped because some people will feel trapped," said Corley.

Beall says she hopes mothers who face unplanned pregnancy will carry the pregnancy to term for ethical reasons.

"Abortion is a horrible evil and it's something that science has even proven, time and time again, that those are babies in the womb. They can feel pain," said Beall.

Jordyn Blackmon disagreed.

"People say, 'Be responsible.' An abortion is a responsible decision for someone who feels like they are not prepared, cannot support a child, and are going to put that child in potential risk or themselves at a potential risk," said Blackmon.

Among the crowd was Janice Bunting. She says she's against abortion for religious reasons.

"Murder is wrong, even from the point of conception on, even after birth. It's a sin," said Bunting.

The march ended at 1 p.m. at the Kolbe Center. The building was scheduled to house an abortion clinic two years ago until opponents protested, and the owner canceled its lease.
