Air National Guard at Robins AFB is looking for more part-time enlistment

Georgia Air National Guard is looking to fill more than 100 part-time openings across a variety of fields.

The 116th Air Control Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard is hiring.

13 WMAZ reported this year that the Air Logistics Complex at Robins Air Force Base is looking to fill hundreds of jobs. But, they're not the only ones at the Base looking to hire.

The Georgia Air National Guard has more than 100 part-time enlistment openings at Robins in maintenance, the medical field, comm squadron, and the 202nd Engineering Installation Squadron.

Staff Sergeant Lauren Trail says you don't have to be an expert to apply.

“So what you would need is either a high school diploma or GED. The Air National Guard will send you to school, they'll pay you to go to school, when you come back you'll be fully qualified in your job and you'll have civilian certifications as well,” Trail said.

The Guard units at Robins have one of the highest ratios of fulltime workers anywhere in the country.

So, Trail says if you start part-time and enjoy it, you can apply to become fulltime.

In fact, that's what she did.

“I originally started in medical, and could see the lives that I could change, not just myself but other people, then with recruiting you're changing lives daily,” Trail said.

Trail now works fulltime in the recruiting office.

Staff Sergeant Charles Chalk works full-time as a cable and antennae installer in the 202nd. He says it lets him travel the world.

“Recently, we helped out with the hurricane relief in Puerto Rico, we were there helping out for a couple weeks and of course we've done jobs on a global scale,” Chalk said.

Chalk also originally started part-time as he finished school, now he is fulltime.

Guard personnel work 1 weekend a month and 2 full weeks a year, with the opportunity to make those part-time positions, full-time.

Trail says the part-time positions pay $250 a weekend, but do provide fulltime-equivalent medical and other benefits.

If you're interested in applying, Trail says to call the Robins recruiting office at (478) 929-9494. Or, you can visit the Air National Guard website and search open positions at Robins.
