Macon-Bibb's Industrial Authority says Amazon's distribution center in Macon plans to hire 30 employees by the end of July and hundreds more after that.

Macon-Bibb's Industrial Authority says Amazon's distribution center in Macon plans to hire 30 employees by the end of July and hundreds more after that.

Head of the industrial Authority Stephen Adams says the company plans to start hiring employees at their distribution center in south Macon.

Three weeks ago, Amazon took part in a county job fair where they instructed people on how to apply.

"We just got an OK to be able to talk about this. Amazon is doing private screening the month of July. Their day one will be the end of July, and they have a very large number of people they want to hire. It's actually higher than previously reported," said Adams.

After that first wave of employees, Adams says the company plans to hire an additional 100 people a week. Amazon has said they expect to hire at least 500 people in all.
