American Legion post 594 committed to continued community service

As Tyro Jackson rounds her 15th year as a member of the legion and her first as commander, she's seen service up close after 20 years in the Marine corp.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — "Service before self " is the motto of Warner Robins American legion post 594. They say they’ve aimed to exemplify that year-round and they have no plans on slowing down.

"We served for a reason, because we gave of ourselves and we're still giving and that's what we want to continue to do," Tyro Jackson said about service.

As Tyro Jackson rounds her 15th year as a member of the legion and her first as commander, she's seen service up close after 20 years in the Marine corp.

"I drifted towards the American legion because I knew that's where the veterans were. Once I became aware of what the American legion stood for, I was anxious to become part of the organization," Jackson said.

Completing service projects under what they call "pillars", throughout the year Post 594 has had a hand in scholarships, blood drives, backpack give away's.

"This past Saturday we had a veteran and community outreach for thanksgiving meal we did for the community. We partnered with rebuild the community organization and single moms connect," she said.

Jackson says a major part of what makes their service special is community.

"The community has been so warm, so welcoming, so grateful that were there to support them. You know, this year coming into office for this post, our main focus has been service before self and our members have went out of there way tirelessly,” she continued.,

Moving forward, support is their continued mission.

"We just want to continue to support our veterans continue to support our military families, our community and just be A part of it as a whole and do whatever we can do,” she said.
