A man police said was trying to break into a car was shot in the chest and taken to the hospital.
Tennille police Chief Joel Cochran said they were called to a home on West Adams Street at about 7 p.m. Thursday for shots fired.
When they arrived, they found Kenneth Carter, 65, in the backyard of his home with gunshot wounds to his legs.
Carter told police he went outside when heard someone trying to break into his vehicle.
When Carter approached the man, shots were fired.
Thomas Carty Jr., 24, was struck in the chest and took off, Cochran said. Officers tracked him down and brought him to Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville.
