BBQ, Boats and Bluegrass event in Macon

The event was free for anyone who wanted to kayak and enjoy the party afterwards.

On the Ocmulgee River, the Altamaha Riverkeepers hosted an environmental event with barbeque, a band and even a raffle for a kayak on the Ocmulgee River on Saturday.

The event was free for anyone who wanted to kayak and enjoy the party afterwards.

Jen Hilburn, executive director for the Altamaha Riverkeepers, hopes that the event will help people want to protect the environment.

“I remember our first riverkeeper rally four years ago when Amerson River Park first opened up and we started seeing people paddle more often. Now you can’t go down the road without seeing a truck without kayaks in the back of it,” said Hilburn.

She says she is hoping to have the event again next year.
