UPDATE: Traffic moving again after Bibb deputies determine suspicious package not a threat

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says the bomb disposal unit found that it was a piece of electronic office equipment.

MACON, Ga. — UPDATE, 10:35 p.m.:

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says the bomb disposal unit was able to clear the package, finding that it was a piece of electronic office equipment.

The sheriff's office says all suspicious packages are treated as if they are explosive devices, for the safety of the public.

The roadway is now open again.

Bibb deputies are investigating a "suspicious package" found in the 3900 block of Northside Drive Friday.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, the call came in just before 7 p.m. When they made it to the scene, deputies found a package on the shoulder of Northside Drive. The bomb disposal unit was called to investigate. 

The sheriff's office says they are "taking all precautions" and have blocked off the scene from the 3800 block to the 4100 block for public safety. People are asked avoid the area.
