Coroner: Man commits suicide in 3rd train wreck within a week

Dodge County Corner Joe Smith confirms there's been another fatal train wreck

DODGE COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE, 2:26 p.m.

Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith says the accident was a suicide.

Smith says 26-year-old Casey Belflower died on scene in the wreck at the Mann Road train crossing in Eastman. 

He says Belflower is from the Gresston area.

Smith would give further details or say how he knows it's a suicide, out of respect for the family.

There has been another fatal train accident Wednesday in Dodge County. 

Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith confirms the wreck. This would make it the third fatal train wreck in Central Georgia within a week.

Last week, two people died within a two-day span after Norfolk Southern trains crashed into cars in Dodge and Taylor County.

According to Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder, a man was killed, and an 11-year-old was injured after a train hit his car as it was crossing tracks at Crest Hill Road in Reynolds around 4:30 p.m. on July 4.

On July 3, a truck driver was fatally injured after a train derailed in Chauncey.

No further details were given from Smith.
