Bo Dukes' probation supervision moved to Macon office

Federal probation supervision for Bo Dukes was moved this week from a south Georgia office to a federal probation office in Macon.

Dukes is the Ocilla man accused of helping to hide Tara Grinstead's body in 2005.

The move reflects that Dukes now lives in the federal Middle District of Georgia, not the Savannah area.

Dukes and his wife pleaded guilty in 2013 to stealing more than $150,000 from the US Army.

He was sentenced to 27 months in prison and three years probation. Federal online records show that he was released from federal prison in October 2015.

He moved back to his Ocilla hometown and was charged in connection with the Grinstead case about a year and a half later.

Michael Solis, an assistant U.S. attorney in the Macon-based Middle Georgia judicial district, said the Macon federal probation office will supervise Dukes and whether he's following sentencing guidelines.

If the probation office reports any violations, Solis said, his office would be responsible for prosecuting.

In June, a Ben Hill County grand jury charged Dukes with concealing a death, tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension of a criminal.

Investigators say Dukes help Ryan Duke, the man accused of killing Grinstead, burn her body in a pecan grove in October 2005.

While charges like that would typically lead to probation being revoked, Solis said, he hadn't gotten any such request from the federal probation office.

Dukes was named in a docket item Tuesday on the federal PACER website, which typically lists new indictments and other charges.

But Solis said there are no new charges against Dukes and the post is not connected to the Grinstead case.

According to the US Attorney, he was an Army unit-supply specialist when he ordered $150,000 worth of TVs, cameras, power tools, and other items, and then billed it to the Army.

Prosecutors said Dukes shipped that equipment to his home where he and his wife pawned it.

In addition to the prison time and sentence, Dukes was ordered to repay more than $134,000 to the federal government.

ll of that happened about seven years after Dukes allegedly helped Ryan Duke conceal and destroy Tara Grinstead's body.

She's the Ocilla school teacher who went missing in 2005.

More than a decade later, Ryan Duke was charged in April with killing her. Murder charges against him are still pending.

Bo Dukes, his high school classmate, is not charged with murder, but is accused of helping him. He is free on $16,700 bond.
