UPDATE, 11:35 p.m:
A toddler will spend his second birthday in the hospital after he was shot Thursday night.
Sheriff David Davis says the sheriff's office got a call just before 5 p.m. saying a toddler was shot.
"To have a little 2-year-old kid minding his own business out on the porch getting caught up in some type of crossfire between really idiotic adults," said Davis.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says 1-year-old Terrion Rice was shot in the upper leg after someone drove by and opened fire in a house on Ayers Road. Neighbor Janice Snipes says she was inside when she saw flashing lights.
"I was worried because I have grandkids here that are out in the yard, so you know, it kind of made me wonder and I was worried about what happened up there," said Snipes.
Witnesses say they heard an argument before deputies showed up.
Sheriff Davis said, "You know, this is a tragic event. This seems to be some type of conflict between adults. It's horrible whenever these hoodlums get out and they bring this misery on the children "
Sheriff Davis says Investigators are interviewing all the adults in the house. Police say there were 5 to 6 children in the house under 8 years old. Terrion was the only one shot.
"Words can't describe the shock that this would put on the community," Davis said.
The soon-to-be 2-year-old is in serious but stable condition at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.
