Byron daycare worker charged with battery against two children

The investigation into the daycare is ongoing

A Byron daycare worker suspected of taking a child into a closet and striking them now faces two counts of simple battery.

Byron police say 32-year-old Kellie Matthews turned herself in on Wednesday and was released on a $2,000 bond.

Police say Matthews was the lead worker in the 3 and 4-year-old classroom.

Last month, the state agency that oversees daycares said they were investigating a complaint that a staff member disciplined a child by putting them into a closet and striking them.

At the time, they said they were aware of just a single complaint about a single incident.

Byron police say they conducted several interviews with parents, children and staff.

They say they also reviewed video from Agape Way and identified two young victims.
