City of Forsyth asks people to cut back on outdoor water use

FORSYTH, Ga. — Despite the rainy forecast, drought is still a long-term concern in Central Georgia this summer.

The city of Forsyth is asking people to cut back on water use specifically for outdoor use through the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Forsyth Mayor Eric Wilson says they ask people to cut back on water usage every summer, but this year, they had to do it a little early because of the lack of rain. While they aren't running out of water necessarily, it will help with the demand of the water systems.

Monroe County EMA Director Matt Perry says this isn't any sort of crisis, but it helps to stay ahead of the curve if the dry weather continues. He says to check your sprinkler timers to make sure they are set on good hours and not running for too long.

Wilson says this is voluntary and not mandatory. In the past, he says people have been very responsive to cutting back when they've asked.

The city of Forsyth says if you have any questions, you can call city hall at 478-994-5649.
