City of Oglethorpe honors veterans in recognition ceremony

Dozens of veterans were at the event, and they each received a commemorative pin and certificate.

OGLETHORPE, Ga. — Yesterday was Veterans Day, but many are taking a pause this weekend to pay respects to military veterans.

The City of Oglethorpe honored its veterans and military families on Saturday.

The event included a parade, music, food trucks, vendors, and more.

Macon County High School's ROTC Color Guard presented the colors.

There was also a program where guests like District 6 State Representative Patty Bentley and the Ogelthorpe Mayor spoke about the sacrifice veterans made.

Dozens of veterans were at the event, and they each received a commemorative pin and certificate.

The first 25 who registered received a free meal.

"We fought together, we work together. we did many things together as brotherhood to protect our country, to protect the values of what our country stands for, and so to be able to come together and do that today is amazing to me," said Pastor Michael Coley.

The event lasted from noon until 4 p.m.
