City of Warner Robins auctions off surplus vehicles

The auction was part of an effort to get rid of older police vehicles that are no longer in service.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — There's nothing like the sound of a good old-fashioned auction to start the day. That's how some kicked off their Friday in Warner Robins at the city's Vehicle Surplus Auction.

Over 25 cars were being sold at the auction, including 19 Ford Crown Victorias. The oldest car on the lot was a 1996 Ford F-350 Flat Bed Truck.

"We can't really get Crown Vics anymore for our fleet line, so we're trying to weed out our older ones so we can get newer ones," says the city's procurement manager, Kim Demoonie.

The auction was part of an effort to get rid of older police vehicles that are no longer in service.

"We usually have an auction every year," says Demoonie. "This year, we didn't have as much stuff as we usually do, so we just decided to do the vehicles."

Demoonie says that a typical auction pulls in over $45,000 dollars for Warner Robins' general fund.

If you're worried you missed your chance at one of the city's auctions, don't worry -- Demoonie expects that Warner Robins will hold another one in October.
