Contour announces new flights from Macon to Tampa

Flights will start on Dec. 19

Contour Airlines announced Wednesday that it would be beginning non-stop flight service from Macon to Tampa, Florida by the end of the year.

Flights will begin December 19, 2018 and they will leave from the Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

Contour Airlines' first flight left Macon in August 2017 and ever since then, things have taken off.

Airport manager Eric D'Leon says the flights are usually packed -- adding that business travelers regularly take the BWI Route.

If the airport continues to see heavy passenger traffic, D'Leon says they would qualify for a million-dollar federal grant.

They could use that money used for extending the runway, laying new pavement, or improving runway lighting.

This story will be updated as more information is available.
