UPDATE, Thursday, 11 p.m.:

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Montezuma Police Department are working near the 500 block of Lincoln Street.

According to Montezuma Police Chief Eric Finch, around 6:20 p.m. Thursday night, an officer from his department was dispatched to the Lincoln Street home and found a man dead inside. Chief Finch stressed that the investigation is still in the preliminary stage and he would not say whether it is a death investigation or a homicide investigation.

The chief noted that in a small town like Montezuma, something like this is out of the ordinary.

"Montezuma is a very nice place to live, very quiet. It's shocking what's going on in that community, and, like I say, we're going to do everything in our possibility to get to the bottom of it, and the guys are in it for the long haul tonight," said Finch.

Police have identified the body but are waiting to release the name until family is notified.
