Door-to-door salespeople with AT&T illegally soliciting in Bibb Co.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says they're trying to get a hold of three people, two men and one woman, who are knocking on doors in many north Macon neighborhoods illegally.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says they're trying to get a hold of three people -- two men and one woman -- who are knocking on doors in many north Macon neighborhoods illegally.

Those people appear to be employees of AT&T, trying to sell additional cable deals, but the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says they've been getting complaints those individuals are targeting many north Macon neighborhoods, using aggressive tactics, without the proper license, and at late hours that break the county's ordinance.

Lindsay Holliday says two men and one woman came to his home on Monday night after dark.

"They were pushing AT&T, saying, 'We're putting in new fiber, we want to get you a contract on the ground level,'" said Holliday.

Holliday says something wasn't right with how they were acting, talking very fast and wouldn't leave behind a business card or literature.

He took a photo the third time they came back with no business cards or information on where they could go to purchase the package online.

He noticed their name tags, which appeared to be out of date.

That name tag won't protect you here in Macon-Bibb County. Captain George Meadows with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says you'll need a permit to sell things door-to-door.

You can get yours at Macon-Bibb County's Business and License Division at the Terminal Station located at 200 Cherry Street.

The permit costs a small fee, but it can protect you from being arrested for illegally soliciting.

"We have been in contact with the company that hired them. We've made every effort to do it without citing them and arresting them -- that'd probably be the next step if they don't cease," said Meadows.

Other people who come to your door, like Girls Scouts or Jehovah's Witnesses, don't need to get those permits because nonprofit and religious groups are exempt from needing them.

Captain Meadows stresses if you tell a door-to-door salesman to leave, they must comply according to the county's ordinance. It also states they cannot solicit sales on a Sunday or after 8 p.m. until 9 a.m.

"We need to ask our county commission to change that ordinance so door-to-door salesmen cannot come to your door after dark," said Holliday.

Holiday says when the clocks fall back, 8 p.m. is too late -- it'd be easier for someone to take advantage of someone opening their door when it's dark outside.

If you have any information about these three individuals, call Macon Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME
