Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills says they have arrested a man suspected of slashing the tires of almost two dozen vehicles on Wednesday morning.

He says, "They were actually able to track him as he moved through the neighborhood by hearing the tires, the air escaping from the tires as he punctured them."

Ryan Oliver Glenn was arrested and charged on Wednesday, and faces seven charges of criminal damage to property, according to a Putnam County arrest report.

He's also charged with terroristic threats, obstructing an officer, and interfering with government property. Sills' office says other charges are pending.

He was on probation for similar charges out of Gwinnett County, but never reported to his probation officer in Putnam.

Sills says, "Had they taken out a warrant for him and sent the warrant to us with the address of his father, guess what we would've done before last night, we would've arrested him, and guess what would've happened, none of this."

Sills says Glenn was running with a large 10-inch knife before he was caught by deputies.

He said all of the vandalism happened in the Great Waters subdivision of Lake Oconee, where Shirley and Russell Dermond were found murdered in May 2014.

Sills says the thought of the cases being connected did cross his mind.

"It would be foolish for me to say I didn't consider it to be in connection to the Dermond murders, but nothing at this point says he was connected to that case," says Sills.

The case is still an open investigation, he said: "We are still trying to sort it all out."

He says they are currently looking into Glenn's background. He is 34.
