Ex-NFL player's 'Teach a Child to Fish' program comes to Macon

An NFL-player-turned-pro-fisherman came to Macon Saturday to instill his new passion into young kids.

Kendall Newson is a retired wide receiver from the Miami Dolphins who traded his cleats for a fishing rod.

Newson says his love for fishing began at a young age when his father would take him out regularly on the water. He started a nonprofit organization called "Teach a Child to Fish" to teach and mentor youth and help find the true value of life while preserving the great outdoors.

He focuses on providing underprivileged, disabled, and less-fortunate children with the opportunity to enjoy their natural surroundings, and if they can't get out somewhere to fish, Newson brings the fish to them in a portable fishing pond.
