Fallen trees causing traffic jams along I-16

Portions of I-16 in Laurens County and Treutlen County are covered in debris from trees

Storm debris is causing delays on many Georgia roads, and that includes parts of I-16 in Central Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says they hope to have all lanes back open by late Thursday morning and that a tree caused the blockage.

The Georgia 511 highway site says all eastbound lanes were affected by debris between Dublin and Soperton in Treutlen County.

Laurens County EMA Director Don Bryant says GDOT and EMA crews are working to clear trees in both directions of I-16 and that he believes I-16W from Dublin to Macon is passable.

Many county governments and EMA directors are urging people to stay off the road unless it's absolutely necessary.
