Fort Valley 'barntique' show this weekend

Rustic Barntiques prides themselves on unique salvage pieces. They're located off Clopinelake Road in Fort Valley.

This weekend, there is a big barn show and festival in Fort Valley.

Sherry Rucker started Barntiques.

"We are staining a tabletop -- we found an old base, actually, in a garbage dump. This was, just telling you like it is, we take salvage and make beautiful things out of it," she described while staining a table.

Rucker is a cowgirl and a junker at heart.

"I rode rodeo most of my life and we had horses and cattle here. Got tired of that and too old to do it."

So she turned the former horse home into a "Barntique," complete with stuff from all over the world.

"We have old Egyptian doors that come out of Egypt that are 150 years old," Rucker explained.

She can go on and on about the eclectic stuff, and that's part of the charm.

"Anything that is old has a history and has a story, and that is one thing about our pieces -- we don't just get them, we try to get the story behind them so we can share them with the customer," she said.

Painter Jenny Murr is part of the staff.

"I met Sherry, and I was a customer, and I bought a piece of tin from her to paint. She said I wish I could paint for her, and I said, 'I can paint for you,'" Jenny said.

She brings a bit of whimsy to everything.

"I like to make people laugh, so I always try to put a little humor into everything I do," she chuckled.

This weekend, the space will fill up with folks with tastes just like Sherry's for a big barn show a festival of sorts where you get to do the picking.

"We are going to have 30 vendors with some of the coolest salvage and antiques, 'shabby chic,' a little bit of everything, Sherry said.

So check out Barntiques -- you never know what you'll find.

The show runs Saturday and Sunday.

Barntique is located at 700 Clopinelake Road in Fort Valley.
