Friends of the Library hosts Fall Book Sale

The Friends of the Library's Fall Old Book Sale is open to the public Thursday morning.

The Macon-Bibb County Friends of the Library is hosting its fall Old Book Sale.

Since the organization began in 1966, the annual book sale always happened in the spring. This year, President John Mathews made the decision to hold two book sales, one in the spring and one in the fall.

"We have had this sale up until this year. Usually, we have it in the spring, but because of the facilities that we are not allowed to use this year, we decided to split it up into two sales, and so this is the first time we've ever had it in the fall," says Mathews.

Along with a whole new selection of books, there is also a new location -- Riverstreet Corners Shopping Center in north Macon.

This spot is three doors down from the workroom where members and volunteers spend hours sorting through and organizing books. The workroom is also the collection site for people interested in donating books to the cause.

Members get a special preview on Wednesday night. The sale is open to the public on Thursday morning up until Saturday afternoon. Admission and parking are both free.

Last year, Friends of the Library raised over $100,000 from memberships, memorials, the spring book sale, and online sales. All proceeds go to Macon-Bibb County public libraries.
