MACON COUNTY, Ga. — A Macon County man was arrested and charged with the sexual exploitation of children on Tuesday, according to a press release from the GBI.

Michael Davis Smith was investigated by the GBI for his online activity after they received numerous CyberTipline Reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

They say their investigation led to a search warrant of Smith's home and to his arrest.

The GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes was assisted by the GBI Americus Office and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith is currently in the Macon County Jail, according to the release.

They say this investigation is part of the ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, housed within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, to identify those involved in the trade of child sexual abuse material.
