Major Teresa Barnes from GMC is this week's My Teacher is Tops

She's a science teacher that has no problem creating chemistry between her and her students.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — For this week's top teacher, Junior Journalist Owen Bowers made a trip to Baldwin County, to congratulate Georgia Military College Prep's own Major Teresa Barnes.

Major Barnes teaches high-school science including honors chemistry and physics at GMC and has been for the last eight years, but overall she has thirty years of teaching experience.

Students say Major Barnes checks in on her students whenever she can, always offering to tutor whenever they need it, and that she's a teacher that greatly cares about her students and their success.

One student in fact, eleventh-grader Railey-Belle Hodges says "She's explained chemistry in a way that I can easily understand, and I've barely struggled all school year. I'm very grateful to have a teacher that's as amazing and kind as her."

Hodges had some doubts about how she was going to keep an A in her science studies this year but with the help of Major Barnes, she was able to pull it off with no worries.

Barnes says just figure out how your students learn and try to teach to their best ability. Barnes just loves to see the kids she teaches and helps them become successful.

She says "She loves the atmosphere and the students at GMC, and just the ability to be flexible with her criteria and teachings compared to the past."

Major Barnes says "Even back in high school, having the opportunity to tutor and help other students after-school, was important to her."

That positive attitude definitely got the ball rolling for Major Teresa's teaching aspirations.

Congratulations, Major Barnes!
